Dog Food Allergy

Dog food allergy is one of the most common types of allergies in dogs, yet few dog owners how to properly recognize it, and instead they go to the veterinary, thinking it is something worse.

Well, the truth is that dog food allergies can be manifested in different ways.  Perhaps the most important step as a dog owner is to watch out for small changes on our beloved friend.  Changes can be on the surface of the skin, but can also be related to their behavior as dogs with allergy feel weak.

But perhaps, physical signs are the ones who will better suggest your dog is suffering from food allergy.  Watch out for skin inflammations when there are no fleas present.

What To Do If Your Dog Has a Food Allergy?

Avoidance is the best step to stay of allergy symptoms; for this, there are many brands of food in the market that offer dog food without the ingredients that typically cause allergy.  However this is not a 100% effective solution, as you are not determining exactly what triggers the reaction.  If you notice that your dog –even with this special food- has the allergy symptoms, a better plan must be asked from your veterinary.

Other approach would be to start with a bland diet, gradually adding more food to determine which one of these is the trigger.  Don’t keep the bland diet for too long though – as it is not healthy to your dog. To relieve the skin inflammation and lessons, I recommend using Vitamin E oil on the affected surface.
